Teenage comedies have always been one of the preferred themes, and this is beginning to emerge on Netflix through Incoming. Hitting FX on Hulu at an unspecified future date, the pilot for Incoming introduces us to a single night in the lives of four incoming high school freshmen. Heading up the project are It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia vets Dave and John Chernin. If you love teen comedies like Superbad and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, you have to watch this movie!
Incoming Documentary 🎬
Physically and figuratively, at the centre of Incoming, we have Benj, played by Mason Thames, who really impressed me in The Black Phone. Meet Benj, the freshman: wary, wired, and not quite wishing his high school journey goodbye. His sights are set on Bailey, his sister Alyssa’s best friend (Isabella Ferreira). Ramon Reed returns as Eddie, Raphael Alejandro is Connor, and Bardia Seiri plays Koosh. Each of the characters adds to the colours in this movie, getting a smirk on everyone’s face and narrating how relatable all their lives really are.
Summary: What Happens in “Incoming” 🌃
The story starts on Benj’s first day of high school. But that all changes when his senior carpool driver (Ali Gallo’s Ruby) drives him to a skatepark, where things get out of hand. His night lurches from the fun of peddling drugs to a potentially disastrous high school party.
Still digesting the last remnants of a singular bull blood sample, Koosh endeavours to follow in his older brother’s footsteps and enlists Benj Eddie Connor for his elder sibling’s perpetually-ill-fated bash at their Juice Factory lofts. The problem is that one of them can remain; yes, you read that right. Benj, with his mind set on Bailey, decides to make it happen and tells the kids in the pool that he wants to be IT.

The real magic of Incoming, however, is at the party. The Chernin brothers lacing of humour through the uncomfortable life of a teenager is almost perfect. Lots of laughs come from Eddie and Connor’s misadventures, including stealing a car and then being roped into caring for drunken popular girl Loren Grey, who plays herself. Meanwhile, Benj tries to impress Bailey, but things quickly spiral out of control when he is peer-pressured into trying Ketamine, resulting in a hilarious string of bone-crushingly cringe moments.
Why You Should Definitely Watch “Incoming” 👀
Incoming isn’t your run-of-the-mill teen sex comedy; it offers up a new perspective on a tried-and-true story that mixes racy potty humour with well-crafted, interesting characters. The film respects the high school experience as it is lived, from feeling pressure to fitting in with awkward signals of first crushes. The writing and performances alone make Incoming highly enjoyable for both its intended teen audience as well as adults.
