Cricket fans now might understand how baseball fans feel the other way around! So, this week we bring to you a “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” sports history special. Play two different teams in the same game. Sounds crazy, right? Well, that is what Danny Jansen did, and it has never happened before in the history of Major League Baseball!
The Setup:

June 26th—Danny Jansen is getting ready to face the Boston Red Sox as they oppose his Toronto Blue Jays. Then on July 27th, the Blue Jays deal Jansen to Boston. No one knew it yet, but that trade would become the catalyst for one of the most unique events in baseball history.
The History:
Jansen had actually begun the game for Toronto, but now a member of the Red Sox, he was all too surrealistic on Boston in this match that opposed him to his own original team! After the slight pause in play, Toronto had a different hitter finish Jansen’s at-bat while the Red Sox? Jansen put him right behind the plate. Same dude on the other side of that box.
Jansen Reaction:
Jansen was just as surprised to learn he made history as everyone else. ‘It is cool, putting that imprint out there in the game. And well, they should be proud of such an accomplishment. It also happened to be a bright spot during an otherwise rather miserable Sunday for the Red Sox.
That Silver Lining for the Sox:

He went 1-for-4 for Boston, and though he never had an official at-bat with Toronto, his name will always be synonymous with one of the strangest occurrences in baseball.

Conclusion:
Records and stats define baseball, but Jansen’s unusual first will always be a point of reference in this sport. A great reminder that in baseball as well as life, it can go from dark and dreary to strange and wonderful in a matter of moments! Therefore, cheers to Danny Jansen, the catcher who just made Major League Baseball history because he played for both teams in that same game.
