Generally considered a suburb of Denver, Aurora is home to the Venezuelan transnational gang Tren de Aragua moving in on its residential neighborhoods. A few days later, on Friday, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said the city will begin taking steps to clear out apartment buildings where Sureños have set up shop after hearing concerns by residents who are afraid for their safety.
Aurora Declares ‘Criminal Nuisance’ on Properties
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffmann confirmed the attorney’s office for the city of Aurora is readying documents to file in court, requesting an emergency order to vacate those buildings. The city will classify these properties as “criminal “nuisance,” allowing the city to take possession back of them from the gang. The process is initiated by an order from a municipal judge and ultimately aims to return ownership rights to the property owners.
A law enforcement task force has been established to facilitate these efforts and disrupt and round up the Venezuelan gang members who have taken over buildings in support of said legal action. Coffman added: “The right thing to do is close those buildings, and this never takes place again.
Tren de Aragua Leader Cookie Monster Arrested
They are taking effect already. The Tren de Aragua gang leader, known as “Cookie Monster,” was arrested by Aurora Police in connection to the shooting that occurred on July 28th, a spokeswoman for Fox News Digital confirmed. Cellphone video making the rounds online shows armed gang members walking around, pointing handguns at people on the property of his apartment complex.
A Department of Homeland Security source confirmed to Fox News that the armed individuals featured in a now-viral video on social media are, in fact, Tren de Aragua gang members. The video has increased public outrage and media attention, forcing local officials to respond quickly.
Island Parking & Valet Made News Nationwide, And Council Member Danielle Jurinsky Won’t Sit Idly By
Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky has taken much of the lead on this issue. A video of the thugs went viral following the couple, Cindy and Edward Romero shared their ordeal (above), which attracted national coverage. Jurinsky went on to discuss the case with Fox News, which only served to shed more light on how serious things had gotten.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who has come under fire for his response to the crisis, told the media that Colorado won’t tolerate acts of criminal behavior. He said his office has been in constant communication with officials from Aurora, and the state has offered whatever support they might need. Yet others, such as Cindy Romero, say the governor has not done nearly enough to confront it.
Governor’s Office Pushes Back
Governor Polis’s spokeswoman, Shelby Wieman, said in a statement that the incident might be “blown out of proportion by Council Member Jurinsky.” She also said that if Jurinsky “really has knowledge of criminal activity, then it should be turned into the Aurora Police Department.” The governor’s office contends it has been ready for Aurora law enforcement to take steps to protect the public for several weeks.
Yet Jurinsky says she is not the only one voicing fears that the gang has moved into Aurora. “Other council members are speaking, but mine is the only voice that gets a platform. She was also happy about those arrests, telling CNBC TV-18: “I’m glad that which I have been saying got confirmed now. He does wonder about the suffering people have had to endure for as long as they did, “but I am glad that this gangland will now be addressed.
The City’s Next Steps
It’s unclear when all the gang members will be caught and buildings fully searched. The city is also doing its best to get through the legal process without delay. Mayor Coffman, and local law enforcement are working to ensure such a violent act of crime does not happen again.
Aurora, the third-largest city in Colorado, has a long and intriguing history that dates back to its inception during 1891’s silver boom. Aurora is primarily a residential city but has suffered from some of the social ills you’d expect in a complex urban area. Police remain focused on managing peace and keeping order for the people of this city in light of recent events.
Impact on Community and The Future Ahead
Fetter formerly was a bustling mining town named Aurora and has grown to be a culturally diverse community. But, just like many urban areas, it has not been without its fair share of crime and social problems. A move that endangers the security of local communities can be considered a high-impact Tren de Aragua gang, so action has become urgent and essential for regional authorities.
Increased gang activity has vaulted Aurora to a national stage, with criticism of its response but also praise for how it is tackling the issue. Denver7 reached out to state leaders and showed they needed to step up, according to local voices like Danielle Jurinsky and Coffman pledgins. Support a firm commitment from Mayoron reclaiming the city.
Residents of the city remain cautious as they observe how intervention will restore safety and security. Aurora, a city situated in the Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas counties, is evolving as ever. Those who live here are resolute in their crusade to keep crime out of the neighbourhood and have made it perfectly clear that no criminals will be allowed to gain a foothold.
With the declaration of a “zero tolerance” for criminal activity by Governor Polis and aided with its task force, Aurora is charting out to change and prevent such a crisis from happening ever again.
